Our Belief

The Legislative Studies Institute greatly aims at providing effective training to legislatures in these developing nations because we believe that legislatures are the most representative institution of government and are in a unique position to support their emerging democracies to create independent, representative and well-informed laws, policies, and mandates.

Our Focus

We derive our focus from the complex issues arising at the interface of the legislative, executive and judiciary sectors in developing nations.

The changing boundaries across the sectors give rise to many new questions such as:

  • How will the legislative arm of government ensure it has the structures and processes to maximize its performance?                  .
  • How will the legislative branch truly be independent, without undue influence from the executive branch, particularly in a mono-party state?
  • How are citizens to be assured of a voice in relationship to legislative representation?
How can the legislative, judiciary and executive branches relate to, learn from, and complement one another?
